“Tell me a story, Daddy!” a chipper young voice met an older blondes ears.
The man gathered a young girl in his arms, holding her tightly, “What’d you want to hear, Mariah?”
The dark haired girl pondered, her blue eyes sparkling as an answer sprung to mind. “The one about how Daddy asked you to marry him!”
“Don’t you ever tire of that?”
“Daaady!” the girl pouted her lips, “I last heard it when I was only three, I’m a whole six years old now!”
“Six whole years!? Since when did you grow?” the adult grinned as his daughters mouth dropped open in shock. “I’m kidding, sweetie. I know how old you are!”
Mariah’s face broke out in a wide smile, “So will you tell me the story?”
“Fine, fine,” the blonde said, “you all comfy?”
The girl nodded, her legs tucked under her as she propped herself upon the bed.
“Well, once upon a time, Danny rented a Disney movie…”
--
Tom was a dork; it was pretty much common knowledge. His wardrobe overflowed with Ghostbusters and Star Wars tees, while his love for stuffed animals was ever noticeable by the large quantities of stuffed figures on his bed. Perhaps the strangest thing came in the form of his film collection. With titles like ’Die Hard’ and ’Rocky’, it seemed like it could have been a normal man’s video collection. However, Tom had a fascination with Disney movies, something that the guys (albeit Danny) made fun of. It wasn’t that he was immature or childish; it was the simple fact that the innocent brilliance of the movies entranced him.
Maybe this is why Danny thought this would work, the blonde pondered. The farther into ’Cinderella’, the more he noticed the brunette’s uneasiness. The hands on his hips were shaking slightly, and his breathing seemed a bit off. Tom shrugged it off, however, figuring
Danny would let him know what was up later on in the night.
---
“He was nervous ’coz he was about to ask you to marry him!” a squeal escaped the young brunette girl’s lips.
“I didn’t know that! I thought something was dodgy with his tea!” Tom raised his hands in defense.
Mariah shook her head, “Daddy, you were so blind back then!”
“Yeh, I was. Would you mind if I continued on?”
She shook her head, snuggling into the duvet.
“As I was saying, he was acting kind of strange, but I just brushed it off…”
---
Music swelled on screen as Cinderella and her Prince Charming danced. Tom’s chest rose and fell with a heavy sigh.
“Eh?” questioned the brunette.
“S’ just romantic, that’s all,” his other half replied, looking up into the deep cerulean orbs.
Danny chuckled, “You’re a sap. You know that, right?”
Tom matched Danny’s grin, “I may be, but I’m your sap.”
Danny kissed Tom’s hair lovingly, smoothing down the golden locks. “I love you, Tom.” he muttered into the hair, taking in his love’s scent - lavender, cologne and all things Tom.
“I love you too, Dan”
“Will you marry me?”
The blondes head shot up, forgetting about the movie. “What?!”
Danny cursed under his breath, “I didn’t mean to-”
“-to say it?” Tom finished, “It’s fine. It’s okay.”
“No, I just-” his cheeks were tinged with a bit of pink, “I meant to ask, but I had something a
lot more…a lot better planned.”
The blonde kissed the others lips light-
---
“Eww, Daddy! I don’t want to hear about you and him kissing!”
Tom shook his head with a grin, “That’s as bad as it gets, I promise.”
“Really?”
“Of course really. Now do you want to hear the rest?”
“Yes please”
“Okay sweetie. So as I said, I had kissed him to let him know he was fine…”
---
“I screwed that up well, didn’t I?” the younger of the two shook his head, eyes not meeting
the blonde’s. “I had this entire thing planned out, and I didn’t say any of it.”
The elder then took his hand and placed it on top of Danny’s. “If it makes you feel better, you can still say it.”
Danny gave him a sheepish smile. “Well, what I was going to say was…erm. Damnit, now I can’t remember!”
A chuckle left the blonde’s lips, “Another Jones moment, eh?”
“Yeah…wait a moment, since when did you name my moments?”
“Since now.” Tom pecked Danny’s cheek softly.
---
“Daddy!”
“What?!”
“You said there wouldn’t be any more kissing!”
“Pardon me, dearest Mariah.” Tom’s face broke out into a wide grin.
“S’okay” Mariah nodded, “Can you keep going? The next part’s my favorite!”
“Sure thing, honey. Then, Danny decided to improvise…”
---
“Do you really want to marry me?” the blonde asked, his face tinted pink slightly. The other man nodded, squeezing his hand.
“You mean the world to me, Tom. It sounds stupid and cheesy, but I dunno how else to explain it. You make my heart skip so many beats, it’s a wonder I’m still alive. I love you, so much and I don’t want to miss a thing.” Danny was smiling, and so was Tom, “You’re my better half, no doubt. I can’t imagine life without you. Will you marry me, Tom?”
Tom’s mouth hung open slightly, “Did you come up with that on the spot?”
“Erm, yeah?” the younger’s brow furrowed in confusion.
“No wonder we have you to write the lyrics, you legend. Of course I’ll marry you!”
Twin grins appeared as Danny held Tom tightly in his arms, as the film came to its happy ending.
---
A loud sigh was exhaled from the young girl on the bed. “You and Daddy are so romantic.”
Tom chuckled, “Yeah, I guess we are. That do it for you, sweetie?”
Mariah nodded with a yawn. “I have a question though, Daddy.”
The adult nodded, “Did you and Daddy look like Prince Charming and Sinnersella at your wedding?”
“Something like that,” Tom looked at his daughter adoringly, “Night, hun.”
She pouted, “One last story?”
“Which one?” the blonde sighed.
“I wanna know what happened after you said yes! Did you dance like in the movie?”
“That’s for a later date,” he stood up, tucking Mariah in before heading to the door, “Night, sweetie.”
“Night daddy.”
Tom shut the door, shaking his head, “A much later date.”
